Abstract
558,923. Non-contact-making relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., CHATTERJEA, P. K., and SCULLY, C. T. July 23, 1942, No. 10293. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] An inter-valve coupling for an amplifier adapted to amplify direct current comprises a thermistor, or thermally-sensitive resistance element, of the indirectly heated type with the resistance element R1 connected to the control grid of the second stage and the heating coil r1 connected in the anode circuit of the preceding stage. In a modification, two thermistors T1, T2 are arranged in cascade or with the resistance elements connected in parallel and the heating coils in series or parallel to increase the voltage gain. When the amplifier is for a relatively wide band of frequencies an additional coupling A, Fig. 4, may be provided for the higher frequencies. This coupling may be of the resistance-capacity, transformer or filter type and may include amplifying stages. The amplitude and phase changes produced by the additional coupling A and the thermistor T2 may be chosen so that the gain and phase changes are substantially independent of frequency over a given range.
