Abstract

565,076. Turning. HELIOT, W. D. B. April 20, 1943, No. 6335. [Class 83 (iii)] In a combined tool and work rest of the kind having two flanges 10, 11, the former carrying a supporting shank 12 and the latter a radial cutting tool mounted in a slot 16 and roller steadies 24, the flanges are connected by two pillars 13, 14, having smooth circular crosssections and located at diametrically opposite sides of a work-receiving aperture 15 so as to allow swarf to escape easily. The pillars are splayed as shown in Fig. 2 and are formed as a single casting with the flanges, the shank 12 being screwed thereto. The cutter is secured by four set-screws 20, 21 and the roller steadies are mounted on approximately radial slides 23 adjusted by collars 26 on screws 27 and locked by screws 28 passing through slots in the flange 11, the slides being preferably at 5 degrees and 100 degrees to the horizontal, as shown in Fig. 3. The Provisional Specification describes a modification in which the slides 23 are adjusted by screws engaging threads on one side thereof.
