Abstract
565,057. Non-return valves. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and KILLNER, F. E. Jan. 15, 1943, No. 14357/42. [Class 135] A non-returr valve, particularly adapted for use as an inflating valve for oleo -pneumatic shock-absorbers, has a bore 6 leading ir from its inner end to terminate in a shoulder 7 against which a resilientlydeformable valve seat 8 is held by a retaining sleeve 9 engaged in the bore. In the form shown, the sleeve is retained in place by a star-shaped member 14 distorted into a groove 16. The member 14 can be replaced by a cruciform, triangular or perforated plate or one or more narrow strips. The sleeve may be screwed into the bore or the sleeve may be secured by swaging over the inner end of the body. A valve spindle 11 loosely engages a bore 5 leading to the outer end of the casing, has a tapered part 12 and a head 13. A light loading spring 15 is arranged between the head 13 and the retaining member 14. According to the Provisional Specification, the body may be formed mainly of synthetic rubber, the body being moulded sufficiently hard to prevent it distorting under operating conditions while at the same time keeping the step in the bore sufficiently pliable to be resiliently deformable within the range of operating pressures. Alternatively, the resilient seat may be attached to the seat. The aperture through the seat may be undercut at the face remote from the pressure face.
