Abstract
577,637. Valves. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and MORRIS, R. P. W. Jan. 28, 1944, No. 1669. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXII] A high-pressure, non-return valve suitable for filling shockabsorbers comprises a sealing member movable in a bore in the valve body, which bore has a valve seat formed around an orifice in its end wall and lateral outlet ports axially spaced from the valve seat, the sealing member being constituted by a core surrounded by resiliently deformable material such as synthetic rubber which makes effective sealing contact with the valve seat, but is prevented from extruding through the valve seat orifice by the core. As shown, the valve comprises a hollow stem 3 threaded at 4 for engagement with the cylinder of the shockabsorber and having a nut head 5 with a threaded bore 6a to receive a nipple (not shown). The core 12 slides in a counterbore 11 having a recessed valve seat 10 with an orifice 14 at one end and has a spigot 13 to which is bonded an annulus 15 of synthetic rubber. The latter controls lateral ports 7. The loading spring 16 is retained by an annulus 17 held in the bore 11 by dogs 20 formed by saw-cuts in the end of the stem 3. The core may be a small steel plunger embedded in the resilient material.
