Abstract
561,679. Removing organic sulphur compounds from gases. GAS RESEARCH BOARD, and KEY, A. Nov. 24, 1942, No. 16657. [Class 55 (ii)] [Also in Group III] Organic sulphur compounds are removed from gases by converting these compounds - into hydrogen sulphide by passage over a catalyst comprising chromium or an oxide or sulphide of chromium which may be used with copper or an oxide or sulphide of copper carried on a support of active carbon, this conversion being carried out at 250‹ to 350‹ C. The hydrogen sulphide obtained is subsequently removed. The catalyst is prepared by impregnating particles of active carbon with solutions of the compounds capable of yielding the metal oxide or sulphide, for example, chromic acid and copper nitrate, and heating the particles in an inert gas such as nitrogen.
