Abstract

[Class 135] [Also in Groups XIII and XII] The flow of cooling water from the feed pump 202, Fig. 8, of a steam generator to a number of desuperheating jets 70-74 in an attemperator pipe 56 between primary and secondary superheaters 50, 60 is controlled by a valve 218 operated through a servomotor 222 by a steam flow meter 214 and a steam temperature responsive device 216. Valves 75-79 controlling the water flow to the respective jets open in turn with a rise in the difference between the pressure of the spray water beyond the valve 218 and the steam pressure m the attemperator pipe 56, and close in turn with a fall in the difference of pressure. Each valve is operated by a solenoid which is switched in and out of an electric circuit by a differential pressure operated device. The attemperator pipe is provided with a liner spaced from the wall of the tube, and the tubular stem of each jet is surrounded by a sleeve forming an annular heatinsulating space around the stem. The sleeve has external heat-radiating fins. The primary superheater 50 is arranged in an upftow pass of a steam generator having a water-tube lined furnace 10, Fig. 1, fired by burners 12. The secondary superheater 24 is arranged in a down pass between the furnace and the superheater 50, the rear wall of the down pass being defined by further steam heating tubes 26.
