Abstract

558,103. Two-part couplings. HARVEY, J. W. H., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. June 12, 1942, No. 8082. [Class 38 (i)] In a multiple contact coupling, in order to ensure engagement of abutting contacts in spite of irregularities in the level of their surfaces, a helical spring 10 is attached to one contact of each pair to form a resilient abutment, the ends of the conductors 8 passing through projections 5 in an insulating block 3 while the conductors 11 emerge into sockets in the block 4 into which the projections 5 fit to isolate the contacts. The outer casings 1, 2 are drawn together by a screw ring 12. The ends of the cables 8, 11 are threaded through ferrules and the turned-back ends secured by thimbles 7, 9. The thimbles 9 also secure the springs 10 by engagement with a single convolution of reduced diameter. The contacts are arranged in a circle but one lying eccentrically within the circle, see Fig. 4, prevents incorrect coupling.
