558,044. Controlling aircraft. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., Sir W. G., and LLOYD, J. July 21, 1942, No. 10158. Drawings to Specification. [Class 4] An aeroplane has flaps extending substantially the whole length of the trailing edge of the wing the inboard flap being movable rearwardly or rearwardly and downwardly to a greater extent than any of the others. A wing having two flaps is described, the inboard flap being movable rearwardly about 30 per cent of the average wing chord of the section on which the flap is mounted and the outboard flap about 25 per cent of the average chord of the corresponding section. The flaps may be mounted on convergent links as described in Specification 558,043 and the outer flap has an aileron which may be operated as described in that Specification or as described in Specification 558,045.
