Abstract

557,924. Sulphate of ammonia, PHILLIPSON. G. A., and THOMAS & CO., Ltd., R. June 25, 1942. No. 8742. [Class 1 (ii)] In the manufacture of sulphate of animonia sulphuric acid in an atomized form is introduced into the gas stream immediately before it reaches the distribution point within the saturator vessel The contents of the saturator may thus be maintained at a low acidity, e.g. 1¢ per cent. over long periods, and it is unecessary to neutralize the product as surplus acid can be removed from the crystals by washing. The Figure shows a saturator of known design provided with pipes p, p' for introducing atomized acid into the inlet pipes c.
