[Also in Divisions C4 and C7] 2-Mercaptoethyl-n-octadecyl sulphide is prepared by the addition of 1,2-ethanedithiol to octadecene-1 and heating at 150‹ F. in the presence of 1À5 gm. of azobisisobutyronitrile. t-Dodecyl-8-mercaptooctyl sulphide is prepared by reacting 1,8-octanedithiol with propylene tetramer using BF 3 -H 3 PO 4 as catalyst.
