Abstract
526,122. #-chlorpropionic acids. ROHM & HAAS GES. (formerly known as ROHM & HAAS AKT.-GES.). March 8, 1939, No. 7552. Convention date, March 9, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] #-chlorpropionic acid is made by oxidizing #-chlorpropionaldehyde with nitric acid of about 70 per cent. strength. The aldehyde may be obtained by continuous reaction of acrolein vapour and hydrogen chloride gas, and is allowed to flow in a continuous stream into the nitric acid. An example is given.
