Abstract

1,149,321. Trimellitic acid. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. 12 April, 1967 [29 April, 1966], No. 16866/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Trimellitic acid is produced by oxidizing pseudocumene with nitric acid at 160‹-210‹ C. under elevated pressure in a single stage, by introducing the pseudocumene in finely divided form directly into nitric acid of concentration of 4-11 % by weight which has been heated to the oxidation temperature, a weight ratio of pseudocumene to nitric acid in the range of 1: 30 to 1: 100 being maintained during the reaction.
