1430337 Methacrylic acid NIPPON KAYAKU KK 24 May 1974 23334/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Methacrylic acid is made by the oxidation of methacrolein with a gas comprising O 2 and preferably containing steam in the presence of a catalyst of the formula where, a=12, b=1-4, c=0À1-7, d=0À1-5, e=0-6 and g=0-3À5. The reaction may be carried out at 200-400‹ C. and a GHSV of 100- 3000 using a molar ratio of oxygen : steam : methacrolein of 0À5-16 : 1-20 : 1.
