Abstract
557,819. Battery lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SAUNDERS, C. W. June 3, 1942. No. 7544. [Class 39 (ii)] A waterproof conducting casing 1 contains a battery 24 and a rigid conducting spacing member 26, between a lamp 6 and the battery 24, of length sufficient to ensure that the whole will float with the lamp uppermost. The battery is enclosed in an insulating tube 22 and a disc 28 locates the spacer in the tube at the lamp end. A helical spring.30 is confined between the lamp holder 5 and the disc and a spring contact member 29 may be carried by the spacer to maintain conducting connection with the lamp terminal. A spring controlled plunger 15 is adapted to make contact with the battery on deformation of a part of the casing, which may be constituted by a rubber cap 14. An operating cap 18 with bayonet slots engaging pins 17 on the casing is 'held by a sealing wire (not shown) soldered between the cap 18 and one of the pins 17; when the seal is broken the cap may be operated to give signal flashes or a continuous light, the helical spring then locking the bayonet slot fastening. The cap 18 has an opening through which the plunger may be actuated for testing, and a pin 32 securing a lanyard 31, which may carry a testing implement. In a modification, the spacer is not fitted to the battery contact as shown, but secured to a conducting disc against which bears the helical spring which then carries a shallow cap to engage the battery terminal; in this case a rigid tube is confined between disc 28 and lamp holder.
