June 3, 1942, No. 5022, [Class 44] [Also in Group VI] An obstetric appliance for attachment to a bed, table or other article of furniture for use during delivery comprises a clamp 5 for engaging one of the members 19 of the bed &c. and a rigid rod 14 or like rigid member adjustably supported in a vertical position on the clamp and extending to a height substantially above the bed, &c., where it carries a suspension sling or belt 24 for engaging and holding the leg or foot of the patient. As shown the rod 14 is slidable in a ring 11 extending laterally from the clamp and is secured therein by a clamping screw 12 and comprises three sections detachably secured together by unions 22; the rod may be telescopic or otherwise of adjustable length. One or more of the rods may be secured to the bed &c. and, if the latter is wide, an arm 25, provided with means 27 for supporting the suspension sling or belt, may be adjustably supported on the rod. The clamp may have a pair of hinged wings 18, 18a which abut against the sides of the member to which the clamp is fixed and are adjustably pressed against the member by screws 20 passing through lug 21 on the ring 11 ; a second ring 15 on the clamp allows the clamp to be secured on the bedrail &c. in either of two positions.
