Abstract
557,553. Alloys; aluminium. BRITISH NON- FERROUS METALS RESEARCH ASSOCIATION, LIDDIARD, E. A. G., BAKER, W. A., and GLAISHER, W. H. Jan. 1, 1941, Nos. 27 and 12249. [Class 82 (i)] Aluminium and aluminium alloys are refined and their scrap is rendered suitable for further utilization by first melting the material and then allowing it to cool until partly solidified, after which it is subjected to pressure, which may be gas pressure, for example, of nitrogen, whereby the liquid portion is expelled. Particular constituents are segrated in the solid or liquid portion, and the separate portions may be subjected to repetitions of the process. Other elements may be added to the alloys to alter the proportion of impurities obtained in the liquid and solid portions. In particular, the proportion of iron in the liquid portion may be lowered by additions of copper, silicon, zinc, or magnesium. Specification 305,640, [CLass 82 (i)], is referred to.
