Abstract

Copper or copper-base alloy is recovered from mixed or composite scrap containing also ferrous metal by dissolving the copper-base material in a molten metal consisting wholly or mainly of tin, aluminium or zinc at a temperature below the melting point of the copper-base material. Where the solvent is also a constituent of the copper-base alloy to be recovered the resulting solution may be adjusted to bring it back to the composition of the original copper-base alloy. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of lead as a solvent for the copper-base material. Specification 671,187 is referred to.
