Dry processes of refining lead; collecting processes for silver; alloys.-In the extraction of tin from lead or base bullion by fusion with litharge or red lead, the reaction is effected under cover of molten salt, or other neutral material. If a furnace is used, the molten lead together with any silver present, and the salt, are separately tapped, and lumps of lead tin oxide are then withdrawn. If a small pot or crucible is used, the lead, salt, and oxide are found in separate strata after cooling. The tin-lead oxide is smelted to obtain solder.
