Abstract

556,505. Thermionic valves. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 23, 1942, No. 8626. Convention date, June 24, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode is formed of folded ribbon with the emitting surface 10 of reduced cross section to increase its resistance ; this may be effected by making this part thinner or by slots 11. Current flow in the return parts 15, 16 is in opposite direction to that in the part 10, to neutralize the magnetic effect. The supports 17, 18 may be to one side of the cathode, one return fold passing right under the part 10. The cathode may be mounted close to a control grid 25, Fig. 1, supported by rods 26 from the insulating end 27. A water-cooled collecting electrode 34 is placed inside a resonator 30, to which the end 27 is attached by the discs 29, 32 and bolts 33. The ribbon may be of nickel, thoriated or plain tungsten or of Konal metal, a nickel-cobalttitanium alloy. Dimensions of the cathode are given.
