556,460. Moulding resin-impregnated fibrous material. KING, E. P. Jan. 26, 1942, No. 1095. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXIII and VIII] A panel member for use as a floor-board or bulkhead or for aircraft, marine craft or the like and for other purposes, of the kind comprising two sheets 12 of fibrous material such as plywood separated by stringers 13, also of fibrous material, all of which are impregnated and/or bonded with synthetic resins and consolidated under heat and pressure such as are normally obtainable in low-pressure plywood presses, is provided with laminated longitudinal and transverse stringers built up from light-weight timber or balsawood or formed material (produced, e.g. from polyvinyl acetate or chloride or artificial resin) bonded to impregnated veneer or paper. The space between the stringers may be filled with low-density material such as balsa, quippo, expanded rubber, calcium alginate or a synthetic foam. The material may be fireproofed or rendered resistant to weather. The grain of the facing sheets may be parallel or at 45 degrees or 90 degrees to the stringers. The panel may be flat or it may be formed to curved shapes by using tools of cast iron, zinc or lead base alloys or resin-bonded plywood, or by forming it in a heat-resistant reinforced plaster. Complete shells of any shape may be formed, a rubber bag being used to apply pressure. Specification 546,089 is referred to.
