[Class 140] Curved composite material is made from a cellular body of expanded or foamed material, e.g. rubber which is curved by a pressing process before it is united with a laminated skin. The pre-shaping of the cellular body can take place during the process of making. The layers of the laminated skin consist of wood veneers, textile fabric, paper, pulp, inorganic fibrous material or metal foil and if fibrous laminµ are used they can be densified by pressure. Pliable laminated layers can be pressed to shape whilst they are being united with the pre-shaped cellular body whereas relatively thick layers can be wholly or partly preformed. The adhesives used for bonding the layers can be natural or synthetic and may be water-resisting, thermoplastic, thermosetting or cold setting. Two or more pieces of cellular structure pressed to shape can be cemented to laminated layers sandwiched between them and to a laminated skin at the surface of the composite material. The composite material can be formed with overlapping joints wherein either the laminated skin or the cellular body can project. The material can be used for motor car bodies, hulls, propellers, aeroplane parts, boats, cowling or curved furniture.
