Abstract

555,496. Aircraft framework: ships' hulls. KREMER, H. Feb. 20, 1942, No. 2295. [Classes 4 and 113 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A light-weight structural unit of substantial strength and rigidity adapted for aeroplane fuselages or wings or for the bodies of small boats comprises a reticulated sheet formed by a relatively thick sheet of plywood 10 or similar multi-ply material from which holes 11, e.g., of triangular, diamond or square shape are cut through the thickness at regular intervals throughout the area to leave only comparatively narrow stringers 12, 13 integrally connected at their crossing points and a relatively thin solid sheet 19, e.g., of plywood or similar multi-ply material, or of fabric secured over one or each side of the reticulated sheet. When used for aeroplane parts of geodetic construction the stringers extend along geodetic lines. Synthetic resin adhesive may be used. According to the Provisional Specification, the parts may be impregnated prior to assembly with synthetic resin adhesive.
