Abstract

600,779. Propelling aircraft. ALMONACID, V. A. June 7, 1945, No. 14390. [Class 4] A series of propellers 9 are arranged along the leading edges 10 of an aircraft wing, their disc circles 40 overlapping to furnish a continuous unbroken slipstream across the wing span. To avoid blade interference, the propellers are driven in the same or opposite directions at a predetermined relative angular relationship, as shown in Figs. 8 and 11, the propeller shafts being spaced apart by a distance approximately equal to three-quarters of the propeller diameter. As shown in Fig. 2, the propellers are driven from one or more engines in the fuselage through cranks interconnected by flexible connecting rods 4, which may be of the type described in Specification 485,053. Fig. 16 shows the invention applied to a flying boat in which the ailerons 44 and tail surfaces 42, 43 are arranged in the slipstream from the propellers. An auxiliary wing 47 is mounted forwardly of the main wing to facilitate take-off.
