Abstract
556,279. Airscrews. HOLBERTON, B. V. March 24, 1942, No. 3916. [Class 114] In a variable-pitch airscrew in which an axially movable double-acting hydraulic cylinder or like member 12 mounted in front of the hub 13 is connected to crank-pins 19 on the roots 20 of the blades by means of crossheads or like sliding members 16 which are guided in sleeves 14 fixed to the wall of the hub as described in Specification 455,074, each sliding member 16 is fitted with a hollow sleeve 25 to slide within the guide sleeve 14. The latter may be shorter than the sleeve 25 and provided with a bearing bush 15. The crosshead 16 is connected to a flange 22 on the cylinder 12 by means of a screw threaded rod 17 and nuts 21, 23, 24. Nuts 26, 27 also on the rod 17 grip a flange 28 on the sleeve 25, the inner nut 26 being pinned at 29 to the sleeve 25, Rotation of the latter by means of its flats 30 therefore adjusts its position relative to the cross-head 16. An out-turned flange 31 on the sleeve 25 engages the sleeve 14 to limit forward movement of the cylinder 12.
