Abstract

578,570. Variable - pitch propellers. NEWPORT, H., GODDEN, T. E., and MORRIS, E. H. June 12, 1944, No. 11247. [Class 114] In counter rotating coaxial variable-pitch propellers, the link connecting the pitchvarying mechanisms of the two propellers is formed with universally-jointed ends. The pitch-varying rod 13 of the forward propeller is attached to the inner race 17 of a thrust bearing slidable axially on the shaft 10. The outer race 20 is linked to the crank-pin 23 of the pitch-varying gear of the second propeller by a rod 29, 30 having spherical ends 27, 28 and provided with a length adjustment nut 33. This nut slides in a tube 35 mounted on a rubber bush in the hub casing 15. To overcome the oblique thrust of the link 29, 30, a pin 41 (Fig. 5), is rigidly attached to the hub casing 15 and passes through a rubber bushed fork 40 attached to the outer race of the bearing.
