Abstract
639,871. Variable-pitch propellers. EVEREL PROPELLER CORPORATION. Sept. 25, 1947, No. 26029. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1946. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXVI] A variable-pitch propeller hub comprises a casing 2 having sleeves 7 to receive the shanks of the blades, mounted in thrust bearings 191 therein. The bearings 19<SP>1</SP> are pre-loaded by means of telescopic sleeves 34, 36 having shoulders thereon engaging bearings 32a, 32b mounted within the sleeves 7. The sleeves 34, 36 are screw-threaded and are adjusted by means of tools fitting into slots in the end face of the sleeve 34 and splines 39 in the sleeve 36. A bolt 40 engaging the slots and the splines 39 locks the sleeves 34, 36 in the required position. Pitch changing movement of the sleeves 7 is synchronized by means of links 48 secured at one end to a pin 47 on the sleeve 7 and at the other end to a gudgeon pin of a guide piston operating,in a radial cylinder 51, the cylinder head 52 of which forms a limit stop. A limit stop in the opposite direction is provided by a flange 57 on a central guide 56 in the hub 2, in which the sleeve 34 is freely guided. Balance weights 62 may be placed at either end of the hub 2 and others on the sleeves 7 (see also Fig. 3, not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 629,606.
