Abstract

945,310. Variable pitch marine propellers. SLACK & PARR (MARINE) Ltd. Sept. 21, 1961 [Sept. 24, 1960], No. 32905/60. Heading B7V. A variable pitch marine screw propeller having at least three blades has one blade mounted in a separate blade bearing ring 27a in a recess in the hub, the dimension of the bore 29 of which allows the crosshead 24 and the crank discs 20 to be inserted into the hub before the blade is fitted, the remaining blades being mounted in bearing rings 27 formed integrally with the hub. The crosshead 24 is joined to a control rod 17 by a bolt 33 and is movable axially in the hub on guide bars 35. Crank discs 20, secured to the blade roots 19, have pins 21 carrying slide blocks 22 which locate in transverse slots 23 in the crosshead 24. The crank discs 20 and adjoining blade roots 19 together define an annular groove 26 within which a bearing ring 27 or 27a is received. The body 12 is also formed with an aperture 36 which enables the bolt 33 and bars 35 to be fitted. An end plate 39 closes this aperture and provides a mounting for a spinner 41.
