Abstract
872,383. Screw propellers. KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD A.B. Feb. 9, 1960 [Feb. 10, 1959], No. 4500/60. Class 114. A ship's screw propeller comprises a hub 11, at least one blade 15, an attachment flange 17 for the blade fitting in a recess 19 of the hub, the blade adjacent said flange having a width greater than the diameter of the flange and extending with an edge part 33 along but spaced from the surface of the hub, and a projection 37 on the hub starting from the edge of the recess and extending along the hub surface in a direction inclined to the longitudinal axis of the hub so that when the blade is in a predetermined position the projection is disposed opposite to the blade to provide a minimum interspace therebetween. The attachment flange 17 is bolted to a disc 23 having an eccentrically offset pin 31 projecting into a member 29 which is axially displaceable by a hydraulically operable piston 27 to vary the pitch of the blade. Flange 17 and disc 23 embrace a guiding flange 25 integral with the hub. The hub has an ogival contour and forms a body of revolution having the axis of the propeller shaft 13 as its axis. The hub may have an ellipse or a parabola as its generatrix.
