Abstract

1385200 Tow-craft for swimmers A FRANCIS 14 Nov 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 40014/71 Headings B7A and B7V A tow-craft for a swimmer comprises a buoyant housing 12 having an internal combustion engine 30 disposed therein, with a drive shaft 56 extending in a rearward direction from the housing into impeller duct 70. Impeller 66 is mounted in a cylindrical portion of the duct and longitudinally aligned and circumferentially spaced inlet vanes 76 extend radially inwardly from the duet towards the drive shaft forward of the impeller. Rearwardly of the impeller the duct has a converging portion 82 in which substantially longitudinally aligned and circumferentially spaced outlet vanes 84 extend radially inwardly from the duct. As indicated in Fig. 8 (not shown), the axis of the aft portion of the duct may be offset so that the craft will tend to circle in the area of a swimmer who might lose his grip.
