Abstract
556,048. Linings for furnaces. SWIFT, L. J. April 8, 1942, No. 4624. [Class 22] [Also in Group XII] Basic linings for electric, open hearth, and steel-making furnaces and soaking pits are constructed of finely-ground dolomite and graphite. A binding-agent such as tar may be added. The mixture is rammed to produce the hearth, and sheet-metal or wood formers are inserted while the banks and walls are being rammed. Internal grid mould or iron inserts may be placed in positions to minimize dilatation or cracking. About 2¢ per cent. of graphite may be used in the hearth and larger proportions in the walls and banks. The material may be rammed or pressed into metal cases which are used as bricks to build the side walls.
