Abstract

PURPOSE: In a solid cementation process of ferrous material, viscous or solid hydrocarbon is continuously added to be decomposed into a gas for simultaneous cementation, thereby producing material solely consisting of cementite.
CONSTITUTION: An electrolytic iron sheet 2 is embedded into a mixture 3 of solid cementation material such as charcoal, coke, bone coal, etc., cementation accelerator such as Na2CO3, BaCO3, etc., and solid or viscous high molecular hydrocarbon such as paraffine. The iron imbedded mixture is then inserted into the furnace core 1 and heated to a temperature of 730 to 950°C. The paraffine in the furnace vaporizes to fill the core and condenses at a zone below 80°C, depositing the internal surface of the core 1, is melted and gradually exuding toward the center zone to reach the high temperature zone where it is continuously vaporized, decomposed to about CH4 to process cementation. The iron plate undergoing solid and gas cementation is caused to contain carbon up to 6.7%, producing material solely consisting of Fe3C.
