Abstract
Basic refractory furnace linings, bricks, shells, or the like are formed from a mixture of finely-ground calcined magnesia and lime, in the free or combined state, in amount up to 80 per cent of the magnesia. The magnesia is ground to a maximum. diameter of about 4 mm. Iron or steel wire reinforcements may be incorporated, in amount less than 20 per cent. In preparing a lining, the mixture is tamped into place cold, preferably in a cold furnace, and is converted by the furnace heat to a monolithic surface.
