Abstract

A basic refractory brick used for lining the walls and roofs of open hearth furnaces (see Group XII) and provided with an inner reinforcement of iron or steel, is made of dead burnt magnesite, chrome, chrome-magnesite, serpentine, dolomite or forsterite, or raw or calcined soapstone. Small pieces of ferrous materials, such as iron or steel filings or turnings, short lengths of wire, or hard nodules of hematite ore may be mixed with the basic materials, and a cement of a similar finely-ground mixture may be used in the points between bricks.
