Abstract

A refractory brick consists essentially of artificially produced magnesia and contains not more than 4 per cent. ferric oxide, 3-6.5 per cent. alumina and/or chromic oxide, not more than 7 per cent. of silica plus lime and has a lime/silica weight ratio between 0.4 and 0.8 to 1. Alumina additions may be as pure alumina, or corundum, bauxite, kaolin, chamotte or magnesia spinel; ferric oxide may be as mill or hammer scale or unalloyed scrap iron; silica is preferably added as serpentine, talc or soapstone. The brick may be used burned or unburned. Specifications 207,172, [Class 22], 418,580, 424,741 and 482,340 are referred to.
