Abstract
546,196. Refractory substances for glassmelting apparatus &c. HADDAN, R. (Corning Glass Works). March 27, 1941 No. 4146. [Class 22] A heat-cast chromite refractory for glassmelting apparatus &c. consists wholly or mainly of ferrous chromite and an alkaline earth chromite and is substantially free from silica. It may contain 5-25 per cent. iron oxide 10-45 of magnesium calcium, strontium or barium oxide, and the remainder chromium oxide, which may be in excess of that required to form the simple chromites. Natural ores such as magnesite, dolomite, limestone, gypsum, strontianite celestite, writherite or heavy spar may be utilized.
