665,209. Refractory compositions. CORHART REFRACTORIES CO. Feb. 4, 1949 [Feb. 11, 1948], No. 3150/49. Class 22 A refractory comprises, by weight, 12-50 per cent chromic oxide, 5-25 per cent aluminium oxide, 25-78 per cent magnesia, over 5 up to 25 per cent ferrous oxide and exists as at least 15 per cent of a crystalline solid solution of ferrous oxide in magnesia, a spinel phase consisting of the above oxides and a small amount of a siliceous matrix. The silica is less than 5 per cent by weight, and calcium oxide, when present, is less than 10 per cent by weight. As raw materials commercial chrome ore and calcined magnesite are used, the silica being present in the chrome ore and it may even form forsterite. Specification 621.736 is referred to.
