Abstract

A "gunning" refractory material for the repair of furnace walls at high temperature comprises a refractory aggregate, a refractory raw clay and anhydrous or hemi-hydrated calcium sulphate. The aggregate, which may constitute 62-88% by weight of the composition, may be calcined or uncalcined flint clay, calcined china clay, calcined fire clay, calcined or uncalcined bauxite, or calcined or uncalcined sillimanite; the raw clay (10-30%) may be kaolin, raw flint clay or plastic ball clay; the calcium sulphate may constitute 2-8%. A suitable aggregate is graded:- .4 to 8 mesh....25% .8 to 22 mesh....30% .22 mesh to dust....20%
