[Class 125 (ii)] In a machine for filling bottles having a rotary platform and tank from which the liquid flows by gravity into the bottles which are vented by means communicating with a source of reduced pressure, a bell of annular form covers the vent pipes and is partly submerged in liquid surrounding the pipes to form a liquid seal while the reduced pressure is applied to the interior of the bell. As shown the vent pipes 2a of the filling heads 2 in the rotory tank 1 project into the annular bell 3 which dips into the liquid in the tank and is covered by cover 24 for the tank having a dished rim 25 extending over the rim of the tank. The bell is supported by an arm 5 adjustably mounted on a bracket 6 by a pivot 15 and pin 16, the bracket being rotatably mounted in a hollow column 7 and carrying a pulley 14 over which passes a chair 13, connected to counterweights 12 on the column. A chamber 9 on the bell is connected by a conduit 8 with a suction fan 10 supported from the columns 7 and the pipe 30. connected to the milk supply pipe 27, passes through an aperture 29 in the cover 24. The bell may be shifted for cleaning by disconnecting the pipe 30 and float 28 from the pipe 27 at the gland 31, removing the pin 16, and lifting the bell and then swinging it laterally, locking means 23 prevent swinging of the bell during the filling operations. The fan or blower and its driving motor may be mounted on the bell or cover.
