[Class 69 (ii)] An apparatus for compensating for temperature expansion of fluids in apparatus containing the same such as hydraulic remote control systems comprises an expansible compensator member 11 exposed to the temperature to be compensated, and a movable expansion correcting wall 37 in contact with the fluid of the apparatus, and operative connections between the members 11, 37 which in the form shown comprise a movable wall 12, a rod 21, lever 24, cam 42 and rod 40 connected to clamping-plates 38, 39 secured to the wall 37 which like the wall 12 is of flexible form. The chamber 36 above the wall 37 is connected by a connection 43 to the fluid of the transmission system, and a further connection 44 may connect the fluid to a jacket 16 which surrounds the member 11. If the temperature variations to be compensated are due to atmospheric temperature acting on the pipes of a transmission system the jacket 16 may be perforated and exposed to air, in which case the jacket 16 and chamber 36 are not connected. The member 11 is filled with air, gas or vapour, introduced through a valve 46. The rod 21 passes loosely through a fluid-tight rod 20 so that air has access to the space below the wall 12. The chamber 36 is integral with brackets 25, 34 which are connected to the member 11 and to a cylinder 26 containing an adjustable spring which acts upon a piston 29 exerting through a rod 32 a counterbalancing effect upon the lever 24 which is fitted with reaction balls 23, 33. The device is irreversible in that pressure acting upon the wall 37 has no effect upon the lever 24, whereas movements of the lever effect movements of the wall. Specification 555,202 is referred to.
