Abstract
553,421. Electrical precipitation apparatus. LODGE-COTTRELL, Ltd. (International Precipitation Co., Inc.). Feb. 9, 1942, No. 1701. [Class 39 (i)] In apparatus for the electrical precipitation of particles suspended in gases, in which the collecting electrodes have portions projecting into the precipitating field so as to produce regions of concentrated electric field alternating with regions of less concentrated field, and in which means are provided for removing the deposits from the projecting portions as described in Specification 383,547, [Group III], the projecting portions and their cleaning devices are made as unitary structures separately removable from the precipitator. As described, the walls of the precipitator 10, Figs. 1, 4, form the main part of the collecting electrodes, and the projecting parts are formed of bars 13. These are mounted for rotary movement on a pintle 22 carried by a plate 23 welded to a slide 21 and tapered to fit mto a stirrup 35 on the wall of the precipitator. The slide carries a channel member 24 with a cleaning pad 25 against which the bar 13 rests, and the whole structure is carried by a washer 26 which covers the aperture in the top of the precipitator through which it is inserted. The top of the bar 13 has a reduced end 131 to which is keyed a pulley by which the bar is rotated. The discharge electrodes 19 may be of wire or pronged type or as described in Specification 553,420 and are carried by a bus-bar 18 mounted on insulators 14 in compartments 15 to which air under pressure is admitted by conduits 16 and fibrous filters 6.
