Abstract

553,088. Dynamometers. ASHWORTH ROSS & CO., Ltd., and MILLS, R.A. Feb. 28, 1942, No. 2645. [Glass 106 (ii)] A force transmission mechanism has the torque shaft or arm of the dynamometer connected to a compound lever system as described in Specication 548,369 and is provided with a balanced lever system to transmit the torque to one or other of a pair, of load indicators. As shown in Fig. 1, the torque shaft a is connected through levers b, c , links d, e, intennediate lever h and a double connecting rod j to change-over levers k, k<SP>1</SP> through either of which the load is transmitted to an indicator l: To carry out two tests simuitaneously a second torque shaft and duplicate lever system is arranged adjacent the first arrangement with a separate load indicator. The two load indicators are arranged in a, common housing m remote from the dynamometers and a balanced lever system is: provided so that the indication may be given on one or other load indicator. This lever system, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises tubular or pipe torque levers n mounted in ball bearings and provided adjacent each end with oppositely directed . crank arms n<SP>1</SP>, n<SP>2</SP> connected to rods q, q<SP>1</SP> and having a third arm n<SP>3</SP> connected by a depending link r to a balanced lever attached at its other end to a connecting rod u. The rod q is-connected to the changeover lever k, the rod q<SP>1</SP> is connected to the load indicator and the rod u is, connected to the change-over, lever k<SP>1</SP>. By this means the operator can select the lever transmission system to be coupled to one 1 or other dynamometer.
