Abstract

552,973. Reamers. FOX, S. A. June 12, 1942, No. 8092. [Class 83 (iii)] Adjustable reamers have the blades 17, provided with in dined grooves 22 on one side to engage ribs 24 projecting from radially outstanding parts 27 on adjusting members 25 26 traversed by a right and left-hand screw 31 anchored at 32 in a partition 11 in the bore of the body 10 which is hexagonal externally and backed off at 16 to provide clearance at the minimum diameter of the reamer. The blades are received in radial slots in the body, and abut shoulders 14 against which they are clamped by an annulus 21 screwing into the body. The leading ends of the blades are shouldered to project beyond inclined abutments at the end of the body to enable blind holes to be reamed. The adjusting key for engaging the squared end 36 of the screw may have a pointer which in conjunction with graduations on the end of the body, indicate the amount of adjustment effected. The blades may have grooves inclined in one direction only to co-operate with a single adjusting member but the dual arrangement is preferred. The ribs 26 are produced by milling flats 30 at two settings.
