Abstract
552,077. Reamers. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION, Ltd., and ARCHER, J. Jan. 9, 1942, No. 349. [Class 83 (iii)] Adjustable reamers, of the type in which the body is hollow and open at the forward end and the cutters are adjusted radially in slots by axially moving cones, have the cutters secured in the adjusted position by an internal lock integral with the body, near their forward ends and by an external lock at their rear ends. The blades 12 have lugs 17, 18 that project through openings in the bottoms of the slots formed by the intersection therewith of chambered-out parts 19, 20 of the bore of the body. The parts 21, 22 of the original diameter of the bore act as bearings for cylindrical parts 14, 31 of the adjusting bolt provided with equal cones 15, 16 and screwing into the shank at 32. The internal lock is formed by the bevelled edge of the part 21 engaging the dovetail parts 25 of the lugs 17 and the external lock by a countersunk ring 28 engaging the bevelled ends of the blades and sliding on the body under the control of a nut 30 that brings the locks into action, camming down the blades on to the adjusting cones. The end of the ring 28 that engages the nut is castellated to reduce friction. In a modification the ring 28 may also be a nut. Specification 16662/10, [Class 83 (iii)], is referred to.
