Abstract
552,892. Pulley hoist. FRANKS, A. L. Sept. 25, 1941, No. 12418. [Class 78 (v)] A standing upper block 4 of a block-andtackle lifting apparatus is connected by a steel tube 3 to a winch 18. The block 4 is fitted with a hook 4a for suspension from an overhead beam, &c., and the running end of the fall 7 passes through the tube 3 for connection at 40 to a flange of the winch drum. The rim of one flange of the winch drum is toothed to mesh with a pinion 21 on a shaft 16, and this engages also a further pinion 22 of different size fixed on a shaft 17. The drum shaft 15 and the shafts 16, 17 have projecting squared ends to receive the boss of a removable operating handle. Loose on the shaft 16 is a detent 24 engaging a ratchet lying alongside the toothed flange of the drum, and this can be retracted by depressing a lever 25. A catch 27 pivoted at 28 and biased by a spring 30 has a spur 27b to hold down the detent lever 25 during lowering operations, a controlling band brake 33 passing round the other flange of the drum being manipulated by a lever 36 loosely swinging on the shaft 17. A grasping handle 38 is provided to steady the winch during operation. The casings 10, 11 and 5 for the standing block 4, running block 6, and winch gear respectively are each built up of mating halves bolted together. An eye 42 may be provided to receive the hook 6a when not in use. The tube 3 may be built up of hinged or telescoping parts to facilitate storage.
