552,832. Fire ladders, water towers &c. MERRYWEATHER & SONS, Ltd., OSBORNE, E. E., STUBINGTON, R. E., MORAY, A. P., and BURFORD, A. W. Feb. 17, 1942, No. 2101. [Classes 47 (i) and 47 (ii)] In a fire ladder, water-tower and the like in which the ladder is raised from the travelling to the working position by hand without the use of any winding gear, by pivotal movement about a fulcrum shaft B a bell crank F pivoted to the base of the ladder is connected by a link E, to a "fixed" point D on the fulcrum frame at a position somewhat higher than the shaft B. This bell crank carries a bar G adapted to be grasped by the men responsible for raising and lowering the ladder, who maintain their hold on the bar until the ladder has been swung into working position and secured by the securing mechanism. To reduce the overall length of the machine, the "fixed" point D can be moved to a more forward position, as shown in dotted lines.
