Abstract
552,610. Electron oscillators. AKT.-GES.. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. June 10, 1941, No. 7334. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] An electron beam from the gun 2, 3, 4 is subjected to velocitymodulation by spaced " modulator " grids 6, 7 and after bunching delivers ultra-high frequency energy to spaced " inductor " grids 9, 10. To provide feed-back the grids are connected by a Lecher wire system 12, 13 which is preferably one half a wave-length with a voltage node at each end where it is terminated by accelerator 4 and final anode 11. To ensure that the voltage on the modulator is lower than that on the inductor, grids 9, 10 are placed at the voltage antinode while grids 6, 7 are near the node. Energy may be taken off by an inductively coupled loop outside the envelope or by a further Lecher wire system passing through the envelope. To reduce disturbance of the beam by the voltage of the Lecher wires, the beam is placed outside the plane of the wires.
