Abstract
552,380. Agricultural implements. KINNAIRD, J. A. May 4, 1942, No. 5964. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Groups XXIX and XXVIII] A fluid pressure control mechanism for tractor-drawn or tractor-mounted agricultural implements is constructed with a pump 4, 5 positioned for manual or pedal actuation by the operator, a container 1 for the fluid medium preferably as shown combined with the pump, and a hydraulic ram 44 carried by the tractor or implement frame with valve control means 40 arranged so that the implement may be adjusted by the ram so as to adjust the depth of cut or to raise it from the ground. In normal operation a treadle 32 oscillates a shaft 27 fitted with an arm 26 which moves the pump plunger 5 against the action of a spring 14, the plunger acting in a cylinder 4 screwed to the front of the fluid container 1. The pump is fitted with a suction valve 12 and a spring-pressed delivery valve connected by a pipe 17 to the control valve 40, and connected also to a pipe 18 fitted with by-pass valve 19 normally closed by fluid pressure but adapted to be opened by a rod 38 reciprocated from the shaft 27. The by-pass valve is opened only if the pedal 32 is raised above the normal high position. As shown the ram 44 is pinned to the draw-bar 45 of a ploughshare and to a clevis 46 carried by the tractor hitch. A motor may supplement the hand or foot means for operating the pump.
