Abstract
1,078,133. Agricultural implements. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Aug. 10, 1964, No. 32416/64. Heading A1B. An agricultural implement pivotably connected to a tractor by a link 39 is provided with a hydraulic system including a shock-absorber 40 operatively connected with tool standards 17 such that upon striking an obstacle a tool may yield and pivot about a point 20 but may be returned to its operative position by the pressure of fluid in the system. The shock-absorber comprises a coil spring 43 bearing against a piston 42. In operation when a tool strikes an obstacle fluid is displaced from cylinder 22 and causes movement of a piston 28 in a master cylinder 27 which piston via linkage 35 37 causes movement of the implement forwardly relative to a tractor, and any excessive force in the system causes the piston 42 of the shockabsorber to be displaced against the coil spring. A fluid reservoir (not shown) is connected to the master cylinder. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the master cylinder and shock-absorber are included in one unit, and in a further embodiment a source of fluid under pres- 'sure is provided on a tractor and is connected to the shock-absorber on the implement via a conduit and valve.
