Abstract

610,571. Agricultural implements. HAMLETT, H. W. April 8, 1946, No. 10761. [Class 6(i)] A bladed or tined conical tool 1, so shaped that soil is thrown into the interior, is mounted on a frame 14 directly attached to a tractor. The tool is driven through a shaft 6 and suitable gearing from the tractor motor, the shaft casing 19 being pivotally mounted on shaft 10. Pivotally mounted on the tool casing is a feeler 18 which may be hollow and provided with passages to convey weedkiller or fertilizer to the soil, the said feeler being provided at one end with a wheel 34 which rides on top of the soil. The feeler rides over obstructions and allows the tool to rise. A hydraulic cylinder 30 connects the tool with a lever 22 having at one end a screw 24 by which the tool is raised or lowered into operation. The hydraulic cylinder which is fed by a pump on the tractor holds the tool to its work and is provided with a relief valve 33 which opens when excess pressure is applied to the tool allowing oil to escape and the tool to rise. The hydraulic cylinder may be adapted to lift the tools in place of the screw 24. A number of tools may be mounted, on a common shaft such as the shaft 10, on a heavy endless-track vehicle. In a modification the end of the feeler carrying the wheel 34 may be connected directly to the hydraulic cylinder so that on meeting an obstruction the tool is lifted, the wheel 34 being replaced by a skid or small endless track.
