Abstract
551,902. Supplying current to moving conductors ; gas-blast switches. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 19, 1941, No. 14864. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1940. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Electrical connection is maintained between a reciprocating contact 12 of a circuit breaker and its 19 by rollers 23 pressed by resilient means 26 into contact with surfaces of the contact and guide arranged at an angle to one another. The springs 26 one for each roller are secured by plates 27 and lubricating pads 28 may be fitted. The surfaces of the contact and guide may be at an acute angle. The rollers 23 are loosely mounted on a spindle 25 and may coincide with a recessed part of the contact 12 when this is withdrawn so as to engage the contact only when it approaches the circuit closing position. The contact 12 may be supported on a roller 21 and operates across an arc chute 13 with partitions 18 transverse to the arc gap. An air or gas blast from a conduit 17 drives the arc against the partitions as described in Specification 544,017, [Group XXXVII].
